    HireLevel is hiring a Buyer for one of our clients in Edwardsville, IL.
     
    Our client is Edwardsville’s favorite gourmet kitchen and popcorn destination. In this unique 2-year apprenticeship you will work directly with the store owner, gaining hands-on experience in product sourcing, supplier relations, and market trend analysis.
     
    No previous buyer or retail experience is required — just a natural curiosity about all-things kitchen, strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn!
     
    Job Category: Temp to Hire
    Location: Edwardsville, IL
    Shift: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm with some Saturdays for special events
     
    Compensation Structure:
    • Year 1: $36,000 - $40,000 (Goal-based raises every 6 months)
    • Year 2: Up to $48,000
    • Post-Apprenticeship: $52,000+ potential (full buyer role)

    Responsibilities as the Buyer:
    • Start on the retail floor, learning customer demand, sales, and inventory.
    • Shadow the owner to master product selection and vendor communication.
    • Take ownership of vendor accounts, writing purchase orders, and managing inventory
    • Travel to key markets (2-3 trips per year) for product sourcing
    • Progress to full buying responsibilities, including sales trend analysis and vendor negotiations
    • Staying abreast of the latest trends through industry reports, social media and trade shows
    • Networking skills to find new suppliers and build relationships with suppliers and sales representatives
    • Decision-making skills to select items and purchase the right quantities
    • Reviewing and evaluating the current offerings available from suppliers
    • Determining which goods to purchase and in what quantities
    • Negotiating purchase terms with suppliers
    • Analyzing inventory data to identify strong and week sellers
    • Written and oral communication skills to compile reports and collaborate with other departments 
    Requirements for Buyer:
    • High School Diploma/GED required. No buyer experience needed — just a passion for retail, a strong work ethic, and a desire for career growth
    • Organized, detail-oriented, and tech-savvy (Microsoft Office proficiency required)
    • Must have reliable transportation for travel requirements
