This position oversees the adoption/guardianship specialist and permanency support specialist. In
addition, will work closely with Foster Care supervisors and case managers to ensure all necessary documents are secured in preparation of the adoption/guardianship, as caseworkers continue to work to prepare the family and children for this process. Obtaining necessary documentation includes ensuring all initial processes are complete by DCFS standards such as ICWA, background checks, completeness of medical records, etc. Monitors case status in regard to legal screening process. Supervisor conducts weekly supervision with specialist, and tracks case status of adoption/guardianship to provide monthly updates to DCFS and team supervisors/case managers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assigns specialist to review cases moving to adoption/guardianship, along with initial completion of and obtaining of paperwork such as court orders, ICWA, background checks, medical records, etc to ensure all barriers are eliminated for service delivery. Assign tasks to Permanency support specialist such as assistance requesting medical records, completing homestudy documentation, etc.
2. In coordination with foster care supervisors, and program manager monitors trajectory of the case, and begins initial review and assessment of readiness to assist in facilitating an expedient permanency process for the child. Identifies any barriers early in the case, and remedies through gathering documentation, working with licensing team, and/or ensuring court records are accurate and complete.
3. Tracks cases preparing for legal screen process, and ensures expedient access to legal screen process and begins to assess cases at that time for completeness.
4. Maintains familiarity with DCFS policy and procedures as it applies to the foster care program, legal screen and adoption processes and assures compliance.
5. Oversees specialist to include review of compliance from foster home licensing records to ensure all pertinent records (i.e. background checks, home study, etc.) are up to date to facilitate permanency for the client. Coordinate with licensing team to address any noted issues in file and/or licensure compliance with 402 and home composition.
6. Develops productivity measures for specialist, and monitors progress through weekly supervision.
7. Ensures specialist completes and maintains case records in accordance with DCFS requirements.
8. Attend training opportunities as required by DCFS or recommended by the Foster Care Program Manager.
9. Other duties as assigned.
SKILLS and ABILITIES
1. Licensure by DCFS or eligible for licensing preferred.
2. The ability to understand the issues of separation and loss for the child in care and a commitment to a child's right to belong to a family;
3. The specialized knowledge, skills, and experience required to help the parents improve
parenting capacities, maintain ties with their children, and develop and implement a stable,
permanent plan for their future.
4. The ability to provide service in an manner that reflects appreciation for the cultural
background, heritage, and identity of each child.
5. Good oral and written communication skills.
6. Possess a driver's license in good standing and provide proof of insurance.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
A Master's Degree from an accredited program in social work education, or in another human services field preferred, or
A Bachelor's Degree in social work or a related human service field with supervision by a Master's Degree in social work or a related human service field with at least two years experience in the provision of foster care or other out
