    Description

    Job Summary:  Performs duties of patient care to adult and geriatric populations, under the guidance and direction of the Registered Nurse.  Performs various housekeeping and cleaning duties to maintain a safe, clean environment. Performance expectations are defined in the competency evaluation. 

    Job Responsibilities:
    1.    Admits/Discharges/Transfers patient and completes appropriate forms
    2.    Provides for patient hygiene
    3.    Provides for patients food and fluid needs
    4.    Assists with patient mobility
    5.    Vital signs
    6.    Maintains safe environment of care
    7.    Provides for appropriate pressure ulcer prevention
    8.    Performs interventions as delegated in a skillful, safe, accurate and timely manner 
    9.    Completes documentation accurately and in a timely manner according to hospital policies and procedures
    10.    Provides age-appropriate and population specific patient care in a safe, skillful, accurate and efficient manner to primarily adult, and geriatric populations as indicated
    11.    Supports patient’s rights and responsibilities, including respect of cultural, ethical,  and religious diversity
    12.    Adheres to standard precautions and infection control standards
    13.    Foley Catheter Insertion and removal
    14.    NG insertion and removal
    15.    Simple dressing changes
    16.    Bladder Scan

    Education Requirements and Other Requirements:

        Education Level: High school diploma or equivalent

        Certification/Licensure: Successful completion of approved Nurse Assistant course with certification 
                                                         by the State of Illinois and/or documentation of successful completion of 
           Medical/Surgical clinical from an accredited nursing program
              
              BLS certification required 
        Experience Requirements:  Long term care, rehabilitation, and/or medical surgical care experience preferred

        
    Working Conditions: Exposure Category I:  Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. All procedures or other job-related tasks that involve an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues, or a potential for spills or splashes of them, care Category I tasks. Use of appropriate protective measures is required for every employee engaged in Category I tasks.
