    Description

    Job Summary:  Performs specific clinical care duties in Obstetrics to include scrubbing and assisting for Cesarean Sections and assisting at vaginal births, under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse.  Position includes maintaining supplies and light housekeeping duties.

    Job Responsibilities:

    1. Supports Patient Bill of Rights by respecting cultural, religious and ethical diversity.
    2. Responds appropriately to infant security, hospital code and patient alarms, including required documentation.

     

     

    1. Uses effective communication skills with patients, staff, other departments, physicians, families and visitors.
    2. Provides age and population specific patient care in a safe, skillful, accurate and efficient manner to newborn, adolescent and adult populations.
    3. Maintains the patient’s environment to include appropriate equipment and supplies at all times.
    4. Demonstrates appropriate operation of equipment.
    5. Demonstrates knowledge of aseptic technique by creating and maintain a sterile field.
    6. Works efficiently as a member of the surgical team.
    7. Maintains supplies, equipment and instruments needed for labor, antepartum and cesarean section rooms, and anesthesia cart.
    8. Assists in maintaining a clean unit and completing the unit cleaning checklists.
    9. Documents in admission, delivery and nursery logbooks in a legible manner when needed.
    10. May perform phlebotomy and maternal glucose screening when needed.

     

    Qualifications

    Education Requirements and Other Requirements:

     

                   Education Level:  High school diploma or equivalent required.  Completion of a surgical assistant               program or military equivalent preferred.

                   Certification/Licensure: Surgical Technician certification preferred. BLS required and Basic NRP

                   required  within first year of hire date.

                   Experience Requirements:  Technician experience in a hospital setting with previous scrub                experience preferred.  Previous obstetric experience preferred.
